What are the technical details of the Robo-FTP PGP implementation?

As of Robo-FTP 3.10 and later, detailed information about PGP is in the Help file under Appendix | Security. Access the Help file from the Robo-FTP Start Menu shortcuts on the machine where the software is installed or online here: Robo-FTP Help File.

A number of factors go into accurately describing a key. These include the key size and the name of the algorithm used for the key, cipher (symmetric encryption algorithm), compression, and hash.


Robo-FTP decrypts PGP files created with various key sizes and any combination of the following:

  • ZIP
  • ZLIB
  • BZIP2


  • MD5
  • SHA1
  • RIPEMD160
  • SHA 256-bit, 384-bit, 512-bit
  • SHA-224


When generating a PGP key with Robo-FTP you can choose between the DSA, RSA, and Elgamal algorithm types and 1024, 2048, 4096 bit lengths. PGP keys generated by Robo-FTP use the CAST5 cipher, ZIP compression, and SHA1 hash (or MD5 in compatibility mode.)
